Goumbook, a social enterprise dedicated to accelerating Sustainability and Climate Action in the MENA region and beyond since 2009, launched their latest campaign Mangroves United at the inaugural Sports Impact Summit 2024 at the Atlantis Dubai, Palm Jumeirah.
Mangroves United unites the sports community to champion climate action through the restoration of mangrove ecosystems.
The sports industry has an opportunity, as every industry holds—to decarbonize, support nature-based solutions, drive sustainable practices and contribute to climate action.
As climate change threatens both natural landscapes and the facilities where sports thrive, impacting the health & wellbeing of athletes; the community must rally, for the future of sports, to be part of the solution.
Mangroves are the ‘Guardians of the coast’, resilient and a powerful nature-based solution to climate change. They sequester carbon, provide natural protection against storm surges, and support a rich biodiversity that sustains coastal communities and ecosystems.
Tatiana Antonelli Abella, Founder of Goumbook “We call on the sports community: individuals & athletes of all levels, sports teams, brands, associations and fans, to harness the power of sports to take climate action, and restore mangrove ecosystems around the world. “
Sean Morris, Co-Founder of Sports for Impact Summit “We are delighted to come together to team up with nature. With Goumbook, we have seen first-hand how mangrove planting can boost biodiversity whilst also helping combat climate change. We all have an important role to play in protecting our natural environment – big impact starts with small but significant changes.”
Planting mangroves, actively supports national, regional, and global restoration efforts, while contributing to the Sustainability Development Goals, United Nations Trillion Tree Campaign, the UAE National Carbon Sequestration Project and the Global Mangrove Alliance.
